About LILGRL

Kooky, queer and full of character, LILGRL is a 25 year old artist reigning from far North Queensland. Currently based in Meanjin (Brisbane) Lily has a background in self taught visual arts practice.

This practice was inspired by the bodies ability to store physical, emotional and psychological trauma and the decaying effects that seem to follow. Using this visual landscape as a vehicle to process and befriend the shadows from their past, allows not only the creator but the audience to question their lens of lived experiences and what healing avenues they utilze in everyday life.

LILGRL portrays these visual stories on hand picked second hand skateboard decks, clothing, canvas, plastic perspex and wood ensuring the vibrant array of characters, colours and patterns provides a sense of warmth and comfort when conveying taboo topics such as SA, neurodiversity, feminism, queerness, skate culture and mental health disorders.

The physical practice of ripping, swiping, slapping, dotting and dragging a range of mediums across a canvas aims to highlight ones ability to remain curious and experimental when wading through the waters of your own conscious and subconscious mental processes. This radical display has allowed LILGRL to be constantly developing and authentically healing the identity of the artist and the art as new learnings arrive.

Thank you for supporting a small artist with a big heart.
